Use JavaScript Resource Mapping to Easily Locate Information

The recent project that jQueryMaps created for Alcoholics Anonymous is representative of a common request that our Company receives. The end-client wanted to steer away from using GoogleMaps due to privacy concerns and expensive third-party licensing fees, but still needed to offer website users the ability to locate groups through a user-friendly mapping tool.

To align with new technology and tendencies, the mapping product needed to be mobile friendly, built in HTML5 jQuery technology and offer intuitive search features to locate information with a few clicks or taps. Working with the specifications provided by the end-client, jQueryMaps created an initial prototype that focused on the US and Canada with sub-divisions by States and Counties. AA_filter

The highlight of the project is the custom filter that enables users to locate information with a simple zip code or city name search. One of the features the client wanted to see implemented was the inclusion of an adjustable filter to select between showing 5 or 10 total entries based on linear distance from the search.

After running the filter search, the map focuses directly on the city or zip code in question and marks the location with a cross-hair icon, while displaying the closest meeting locations as icons on the map. A useful addition to the project is the results list displayed just below the cartography, which provides users with a text list of all groups defined on the map, conveniently listed in order by distance to the city or zip code used in the initial search. AA_Results Table Specific information on the meeting is shown in the pop-up boxes as well as in the results table. As you can see, the end product provides a great JavaScript resource mapping tool to identify group locations.

The ability to work closely with clients to develop and improve custom mapping solutions, is one of the benefits of working with jQueryMaps.
